Some fool is trying to represent us on several other sites, he goes by many handles, but most often by 'jimbo'. He does NOT represent, or work for us. He has been banned from these forums and is seeking retribution. Sorry for any problems he may have caused.
I saw his post when visiting the Achtung Panzer forum. Its too bad people are already shamelessly throwing around this sites name for there own personal reasons. ------------------ Emperor Rags - the-desert-fox@home.com "The courage of your enemies does you honour." -Old Chinese proverb
Good Evening Gentlemen, "Jimbo" must have done something pretty bad to have been banned already! All I can say is that I wouldn't have found you but for his posting on Jason Pipes forum! I would be interested to know how many other regular's from Jason's and Marcus's sites drop in here. Regards, Rich
Easy on the eye, a Preview facility would be useful when composing a message. Why do I get the impression that there is a Rommel supporter or two, here? Hmmm, it must be about time that his can was kicked around the yard again. Best of luck anyway.
Welcome aboard! Good to have an aussie with us. You're right, I am a big fan of the Desert Fox, funny you mentioned him considering you are Australian. Your nationality reminds me of the Siege of Tobruk and all the trouble the Australian troops gave to the Afrika Korps. You know Rich, I spent 4 years living in Melbourne, Australia. I still have a weak spot for some good old footy.
Thanks, R...R...Rommel, sorry I have difficulty with that name. The Aust. troops get a lot of credit for Tobruk 1941 but the real credit should go the commander, General Morshead. It was his determination, organisational and tactical skills that forged the ad hoc collection of troops which retreated to Tobruk into a successful army. A pity that he was never given the opportunity to take a higher command in the desert.
I'm not extremey familiar with General Morshead, however, the tenacity of the aussie troops is well documented. Tobruk was the first time in the desert that infantry positions were breached by armour and they did not surrender. Throughout the war Australian troops made a good showing of themselves, wether they were commanded by Morshead or not.
Oh I agree, the 9th Div were the occupiers of Tobruk and also fought at El Alamein under Morshead. Unfortunately after that they returned to fight the Japanese. The Tobruk defense was devised by Morshead along the lines you mention. It was based on the fact that tanks have difficulty engaging dug in infantry who do not retreat and so offer easy pickings. The job of the Tobruk infantry was to engage the Axis infantry and let the tanks roll past to be engaged later on by AT in depth. Once this occurred mutual support was lost, too.
Fortunately or unfortunately I am here. Message for Richard Murphy. I discovered this site by accident. Just for the heck of it, I typed in a URL, just to see what came up, and wallah, this site appeared. I never saw nor heard any advertisement for this site. The first person I "recognized" was Marcus Wendel. Hows it going Marcus?
