I could probably look through the "Best films" thread again and randomly pick one, but i'd like a suggestion from
a few of the board members based on these films i've seen
, and LOVED. I would prefer more modern day films, 1980+
but any older ones that are good i'd love to see. My top list
Mini Series - Band of Brothers
    1. The Pianist
    2. Uprising
    3. Downfall
    4. The Big Red One
    5. The Great Escape
    6. Hart's War
    7. The Thin Red Line
    8. Enemy at the Gates
    9. Swing Kids
    10. Saving Private Ryan
    11. Dirty Dozen,
    12. Jakob the Liar
    13. Varian's War
    14. Windtalkers
--- These films i am interested in seeing but would like an opinion first:
    Escape from Sobibor
    ,
    The Pacific,
    Defiance,
    Kelleys Heroes,
    Pearl Harbor,
    Black Book,
    Boy in Striped pajamas,
    Schindler's List
    The Grey Zone
    Saints and Soldiers
    Letters from Iwo Jima
    Miracle at St. Anna
    Inglorious Basterds (modern)
    The Way back

It might be helpful "fuser" if you would indicate which of the films you listed have already been seen by yourself.

Das Boot (the TV series not the film version. I think it's 7 hrs).
    Shoah (long and hard work).
    Come and See.
    Boy in the Striped PJ's.
Triumph of the Spirit (the Greek boxer in Auschwitz).

Oh and the 13th Warrior (the Seventh Samurai with Vikings what could be wrong).

Try the German film "The Bridge" or "The Cruel Sea" (UK). Both are older and B/W but very good.

Kelly's Heroes is excellent, and TCM has it on Dec. 10th.:awesome:
Defiance is OK. I think they could have done more wih Liev Schreiber and the guys who fought.
    Pearl Harbor sucks.
    Schindler's List was great.
Letters from Iwo Jima was terrific.
Skip Miracle at St. Anna. Spike Lee was just on his race trip again. and being of Italian descent I didn't care for it.

Escape from Sobibor is good - I picked up a new DVD of it recently - but don't expect cinema quality, it was only a television production, it REALLY could do with being digitally remastered. Also, given it's antecedents, it's restricted in what it could show in the box. Aside from those caveats - not bad at all.

Add A Bridge Too Far to your list. Definitely a must-see.

Suprisingly - add the colorized version of The Longest Day if you can find it. Normally I wouldn't suggest a colorized film, or ANY film tampered-with-from-the-original classic - but in this case it's been suprisingly well done.

And make sure you get to see the re-edited version of The Big Red One ;)

Not only do I agree with the following but it seems to be the consensus on almost if not all the boards I'm on:

    Here are my opinions.
    The Pacific. Ok
    Defiance. Good.
Kelley's Heros. "Odd" but a must see.
    Schindlers List. A must see.
Letters from Iwo Jima. Very good.
Inglorious Basterds. NOT a WW2 movie. Didn't like it at all, and I do like Brad Pitt.
The Way Back. Ok. Good gulag scenes.

Here is some others that I love.
    The Pianist.
    Enemy at the Gates.
    Stalingrad (German movie).
    Saving Private Ryan.

Anyone remember "The Winds of War" mini-series? It's been a long time since I watched it but I liked it.
