I stopped in to say hello, my grandfather served in Co C 836th Engr Avn Bn.. he used to tell me stories about the war when i was growing up, mind you it was mainly funny things that happened, rarely did he mention fighting. he did desert training in Cali. at camp young then they sent his to the pacific go figure.
Welcome Dusty, Funny stories are just as good as combat stories. I am writing a book about a recon soldier and mostly what he wanted to talk about was teh funny stuff, such as the night they bought the Belgian restaurant with the captured German payroll.
I had a neighbor who was a driver on a Stug III, he used to tell me funny stories too, he told me about a Russian sniper hit him in the helmet and the shell fell down the back of his shirt into his trouser's and lodged between his checks, no one could figure out why he was stripping. I guess toasted buns would make anyone stip. suSg III
