Alright, this just came up in me again, last year 2010 when I was in auschwitz, I heard a locomotive train and dogs barking in the distance while in the Birkenau side.. I was somewhere on the back end and the sound came from the entrance direction.. They dont use locomotive's anymore do they?

What could it have been? It really sounded like it was back then.

Im thinking of maybe a sound is 'haunting' the place?

I'm telling you, it was really strange and scary at the same time.

I have relatives going there next Spring . I will ask them to have a look and see if there a modern station in the vicinity.

What you heard could have been a natural recording. We know that we can record sounds on to magnetic tape and have made equipment to play them back at will. This would have been science fiction in the 19th century and witchcraft prior to that. We also know the earth has a magnetic field so it must be possible for some parts of the earth, maybe certain ferrous rocks in the ground, to naturally 'trap' sound waves and under certain circumstances that we have yet to discover, release those sound waves.

I don't buy into this stuff, but close to me is a little place called Niagara-on-the-Lake. It was home to a major fort called Fort George during the 1800s. During the War of 1812 (between Canada and the US), the Americans captured the fort after a large battle. Some people claim that certain locations near the fort today you can occasionally hear the sounds of the battle. Prior to your message, I've only heard of this as it relates to Fort George. This is interesting.

I'm not very familiar with the area, but is there some type of interactive museum exhibit nearby? You may have heard the sound coming from this. Under the right wind, temperature and pressure conditions you would be surprised at how far sound will carry.

I have a great interest in the paranormal....many of my relics have their previous owners attached to them.....in places of great sorrow or human hardship sights and sounds csn be imprinted on the landscape and given the right circumstances csn be replayed

Being pragmatic I don't beleive in those things until I have scientific evidence. This does not mean I said it does not exist. It hasn't been proven yet. Maybe one day it could, so I'm trying to be as open minded as possible about this without buying the gullable stories about white widows in people's neigbourhoods.

One possibility is that some people could be more sensitive to sounds (if they exist) or hallucinations (if they don't exist) . There could also be another source of noise pollution which could have cause these noises (recording from a museum, barking from farmdogs, truck horns etc...).

I however grant this isn't the first time I hear similar stories.

Even if it was a railway.. ? dogs barking at the same time? Pity is, I'm not 100% sure anymore if I heard a whistle of the train or not, but I believe there was. Also I certainly heard the tracks, I know Poland dont uses modern equipment but still.. (you know, modern trains you dont hear the tracks (or much) ) Maybe it all was nothing, but who knows ??? I still believe it's something though, its just too coincidental for the train and dogs at the same time.

About a museum, I dont know if anything of that is in the vicinity.

I heard a story here on the forums, about that also you can hear an airplane on a RAF base..

Sad there are no more 'witnesses' possibly that may have heard in in april 2010.

Could it have been a soundtrack from the museum?

There was a little store in the entrance, but there weren't sounds played.

Also they say you dont hear birds etc in the camps.. but I just heard them.

I have at least three German soldiers, two being my great uncles and one that appeared after I got a relic M40 from Stalingrad. I saw him on the first night quite confused as to how he was suddenly in Australia, and quite emotional about the state of his helmet......poor bloke just didn't know what had happened to him, he was quite disheveled in his great coat...he spoke in German first, but then said he spoke English....he didn't say a great deal, just why was he here, why was his helmet so rusty and worried about what he was going to say to have to have it replaced!!!! Hard to brlieve I know...we spoke over a few nights and again he got quite emotional hen he realisemd he was dead.....he came to term s with it quite quickly and hung around for a week or so......he wanted someone to toast him with a beer before he would leave, never gave me his name or any other details....I went out and bought a six pack of German beer, got two steins and poured us both a beer, raised a gass to him and he quietly walked through th front door....
