I suppose I "could" break out my wife's DVD and watch the scene where they are in the church courtyard. Might be able to tell from the group Rolfe's with. Then again maybe not, I've paid my penance.
Time to find our copy of "Mary Poppins". Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Yes but it still would have caused alot of dread. Considering that before 1939 the SA was responsible for violent attacks on the Jews and others who the Nazi regime states as a threat. Therefore even without a WW2 thousands of jews and others would have most likely met a violent end within the Nazi Reich.

So you've never watched the movie and based your opinion about it being "schmaltzy" on what? Hey, we're all entitled to our own opinions and apparently what we base them on, but that hardly sounds informed. It's only a movie and the world will continue to spin, even if you never see it.

Actually it's an excellent film. True to the Von Trapp story? Nope. True to WWII? Nope. Hollywood? All the way. May not be to your liking, though I would highly recommend it to anyone on Blu-ray. The transfer is spectacular and it's a good story with excellent acting, singing and cinematography. They truly don't make 'em like this anymore.
