Wonder if you have considered asking for Cpl. Fagan's Individual Deceased Personnel File? Kerrd5 was good enough to leave a sample letter and address. Think his unit will be included in the information plus a lot more. Dave Here is a revised sample letter to request one: U.S. Army Human Resources Command ATTN: FOIA Office 1600 Spearhead Division Avenue Fort Knox, KY 40122 Dear Sirs, IAW with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), I should like to request a copy of the Individual Deceased Personnel File for my uncle, John Smith, who died in World War II. Below is his personal information: - NAME: John Smith - RANK: PFC - ASN: - UNIT: - DATE OF DEATH: I realize that this will take some time, and I will be patient. Naturally, I am prepared to pay any costs necessary for the production and mailing of the file.
Buten42 has the best advice and I'd try to request the files. I've found this pdf that explains a little of the CIC in WW2 and has an overview of it's SWPA operations. You may be able to gleam a few hints/clues from it. I did not see a specific reference to the 11th. At the least it is an interesting read. http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/army/cic-wwii.pdf This is where I found the link for the CIC pdf and also a good place to start. Chapter 5- World War II Military Intelligence at the Center Good luck and keep us posted.
I would definitely agree with Buten42 about requesting his IDPF. I obtained my great uncle's IDPF and am very glad I did.
It will probably be about 4 months. However, I was pretty pleased with what I got so it was worth the wait.
I found this on CARL: Counter Intelligence Corps history and mission in World War II Obviously, it won't address your specific questions about Cpl. Fagan. It may be good for background info, though.
