I'm just finishing up Armageddon, by Max Hastings. It's pretty good stuff for a macro view of the war.

Every time I read a book, it prompts me to buy one of the source documents the writer draws upon, so this book has prompted me to buy On to Berlin: Battles of an Airborne Commander 1943-1946 (James Gavin).

I just received a copy of "Three Inch Fury" which is the unofficial unit history of the 614th Tank Destroyer Battalion. I've been working on the 614th's Wikipedia page for a year or so and this will be a big help. We'll also post it on our website at some point.

This was my first experience ordering from USAHEC at Carlisle. They have a number of TD unit histories, all it takes to get them is lots of time and a reasonable amount of money.

I've got (and have read!) "Brothers of War" and "Sniper of Easy Company", both are excellent books. My ongoing request at Birthday and Christmas seasons is for a) cash or 2) Amazon gift cards. I usually get Amazon cards. I just ordered $80 worth of books, and spent quite a bit of time culling out the other $65 worth that was in my shopping cart. I can't even begin to put a pricetag on my wishlist! LOL In my current order, soon to be arriving (in no particular order):

Got some great deals on some of these...several were $0.01, with $4 shipping. LOL Still, can't beat that price!

Staying on topic: currently I'm reading The White Rabbit by Bruce Marshall. An interesting read, but so far feels more like just an overall birds-eye look at the man's life, not an in-dept autobiography like "Patton: A Genius For War" by Carlos D'Este. Not to say its a bad book...more like I'm spoiled by Mr. D'Este's thoroughness and after reading one of his books, you feel like you're on a first-name basis with the person in question. One other nitpicky is that Mr. Marshall is overly fond of alliteration. Seriously. He sometimes goes out of his way to alliterate. But for someone who knows next to nothing about Yeo-Thomas and his 007-esque exploits, its a good place to start.

I liked Solomon Kane as well. Wish I had had a chance to see the movie.

Wife and I both finished Cold Days a couple days ago. Haven't been doing much reading since then.

These days I will start with "The River War: An Historical Account of the Reconquest of the Soudan" by Winston Churchill which I got for Christmas. Should be interesting as I am yet not so familiar with the Soudan Campaign.

As the question is 'what am I reading right now?' it's actually 'Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Dagger' by Leroy Thompson in Osprey's 'weapons' series.....

It only took two weeks plus for someone to actually look at that "book cover" - God Bless You B!

Actually I've finished that one, plus Osprey's Franco-Prussian Corsets and Osprey's Victorian Sepoy Bras, now I'm on Osprey's Armor For the Glamour Gal of the 16th Century - gotta get them back to the library by the 16th!

Davi K. Brown's The Grand Fleet . Yes I know it's ww1 but .. simply facinating and a lot more fun than Friedman's Naval Firepower that preceeded it in the queue. Of course there'se also a SF book to spend the time while on public transport and the like, current one is the clan corporate by Charles Stross.

Bringing the Thunder : The Missions of a WW2 B29 Pilot in the Pacific.

A first person account of his days in the Air Corps. Just started this yesterday and like it so far. Tells of his first mission; the firebombing of Japan, then backtracks to his life leading up to the War. Some may say there is too much "filler" content but I like the individual aspect.

Besides - it was a free download to Kindle.

Center for Naval Analysis Capstone documents. PowerPoints shouldn't have 5,000+ bullet points.
