(Move okay, if there's a better place for this.)

Ever played the Google Earth game? You post a screen shot of a place (related to WWII here, naturally) and people try to figure out where/what it is. Questions are allowed, and answers should be clear. Hints are okay when things bog down, of course.

Here's your first pix. Where is this and what is it's relationship to WWII?

Don't forget to trim off the coordinates at the bottom of the pix.

Is it related to the 8th Air Force?

I really shouldn't be answering this (too easy -- I was there a few months ago). Its the Mardasson Memorial located just outside Bastogne. The hill that its located on allegedly marks the point of the furthest German advance. According to Jean-Paul Pallud's "Battle of the Bulge Then and Now", a German patrol made it to the top of the hill. One of its members was shot and killed as they came to the peak, and his companions bid a hasty retreat. The Memorial was opened in 1950, dedicated to the 80000 American casualties in the Ardennes.

Here's a "ground view" courtesy of my "2012 European Trip" thread:

EDIT: And that smaller 'star' above the 'star with the circle' is the Bastogne Historical Center.

One small suggestion. If you don't include the compass rose, please advise us of the orientation. (First thing I look for is Northern/Southern Hemisphere clues. Then I look to see what side of the street they drive on.)

Good suggestion. In that orientation, WNW is 'up'.

No one? Here's a hint: that picture is not in grayscale -- the sand is actually that color.

You can post the long/lat, Ctrl-Shift-C or the Edit menu. And the name of the place is good, too. If I'm not 100% certain I post the coordinates so other people can check me.

Ctrl-Alt-S saves the image. Be sure to crop the coordinates from the bottom of the image before posting.
