I think I'll download the whole works, if I can figure out how to get it onto a CD. Be great if I can get it to the Kindle!
Burn the complete PDF/PDFs to CD, most CDs are good for 700MB. As to getting it on your Kindle...Well... http://www.pcworld.com/article/2044412/convert-a-pdf-for-kindle-viewing-no-software-required.html Or you can download the open source program "Calibre" http://calibre-ebook.com/ FAQ for converting http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq.html#what-formats-does-app-support-conversion-to-from
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I haven't been able to access the diary on Firefox. Should I be using IE?
Thanks Takao, I thought I could but it's been a while since I've used the amazon/kindle site. I'll give it a go when I'm feeling brave. Firefox worked for me Lou; I copied the link www.usnwc.edu/graybook and this came up; Click a link to open the PDF for a single volume in a new window. Login or Register to download the full PDF (659MB) for volumes 1-8. Graybook Vol. 1 (7 Dec 1941 - 31 Aug 1942) (125MB) Graybook Vol. 2 (1 Sep 1942 - 31 Dec 1942) (64MB) Graybook Vol. 3 (1 Jan 1943 - 30 June 1943) (58MB) Graybook Vol. 4 (1 Jul 1943 - 31 Dec 1943) (37MB) Graybook Vol. 5 (1 Jan 1944 - 31 Dec 1944) (121MB) Graybook Vol. 6 (1 Jan 1945 - 1 Jul 1945) (149MB) Graybook Vol. 7 (1 Jul 1945 - 31 Aug 1945) (59MB) Graybook Vol. 8 (Dispatches 30 Dec 1941 - 31 Apr 1942) (43MB) But be careful there's a lot of reading to be had
Thanks. I could login on IE and see the links, but they never opened. The links you have seem to work. For some reason, Firefox just showed a blank screen with headings. Must be a setting, but I'm too lazy to look for it. I'm going to try to put this on my nook for later reading.
Four thousand pages!!!! OMG!!!!! That's approx. three pages a day... Didn't he have, like, a war to fight? I suppose it just goes to show what you can do when you're stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean, with only hairy dudes for company...
When you look at it you'll notice that Chet did some editing, at least on the early entries, and initialled the page. Bill
I managed to download the diary to my computer. I pet some on my nook, but man does it take up a lot of space. I'll do some reading later.
