Remember, the worry was that all the ice was melting-poor polar bears-, coasts would be flooded...Yes ice has receded. Yes ice has advanced. It may be that ice follows magnetic North. Which 'splains a lot about how Earths climate is in a state of permanent flux...The Sun determines our destiny. Heat in- heat out... Da Da has a way with words: http://amancalleddada.blogspot.ca/2014/03/our-wandering-poles-or-all-your-moon.html

Now it is: Change in weather, "Not just hot- stupid- it's cold too."...lol. Time will tell...In the mean time, call AG's tax hounds off. AU has already recognized the folly.

Apparently, the flip in the magnetic poles is about 50.000 years overdue,
    I'm not worried.

Wonder if the magnetic north pole movements were considered when scientists built their models, and if that could be the reason they were so wrong. :)

Now, a pole flip- that could really mess things up. Or down.

Probably all the people on cell phones, using microwaves, watching TV etc. That is causing the sudden shift in the last 150 years. Blame Marconi (president before Bush).

Will this affect my GPS now?

Your GPS works?! Mine can't get a signal more accurate than 20m unless I'm 2000 feet up a bloody hill!

I used to work on an old school navy GPS the WRN-6. I got called up to the bridge to fix it in the middle of the night.
Apparently a few wires had gotten crossed and it had decided we were currently sailing through the heart of the African Congo. :)
We were actually off the west coast of Mexico. The joys of Mil Tech.

Please, don't get me started on the GPS thingy. Ruined my last 2 days. Soon, will know the planet like back of hand and won't need that dumb *****. ..Thinking the satelite even heard what had to say. Glad that is not a crime...I'm sorry NSA. Was joking about the killbombpresident bit. Put me back in service.

Mine works just fine. Never had any problems with it yet. You must have a Magellan. Mine's a Garmin.

They have some new cutting edge technology called a compass. It doesn't even need a battery, it apparently works in some almost magical fashion by tapping power from the earths magnetic field. We live in marvelous times!

Mhhh, the compass only tells you what direction you are headed in, to achieve the full effect of the "compass", you need to acquire a trusy "map." I prefer a trusty map and compass, also the map does need batteries, and you can acquire them FREE at the local AAA.

For our youngin' members the ancient art of combining the "compass" and "map", was known as Orienteering or Land Navigation.

I don't use a GPS, and cannot stand the infernal things...But, then again, for me, I usually had more fun getting lost, than i did at my actual destination.

Just so you will know.....I worked in the oil patch traveling to oil and gas well sites, mapping by GPS,(also surveying well sites) to get their locations recorded so techs and others could find each companie's wells......the initial GPS systems mapped every sand wash as a "road" as from the satellites view a sand wash and a road looked exactly alike. Needless to say the initial maps needed endless corrections but a company could then find their properties in the vast areas of the San Juan Basin as long as the hunter didn't attempt to drive down the sand washes when the GPS wanted to map the route via the washes. That is how "early" GPS systems behaved and they were very expensive in their first and second generations.

I remember way back in the eighties, I was living in Greenland at that time, they said that in 20-30 years the Greenland ice cap would have melted and the sea level would have risen 60 feet!

Now we are there, 30 years later, and no change can be verified.

So is mine! In fairness, I use it more for archaeology than anything else. That means it's usually either amongst buildings or trees when I need it to be accurate.

I'll be damned if I'll trust Alcoholics Anonymous to have accurate maps! Google Earth - shift/PrtSc - instant map. Beyond, there be dragons.
