The odd thing is that I recall pretty much all of it...And will till the grey old man with the scythe pops up. But I never could get used to German food Bloody great big tins of herrings The tins looked like anti tank mines...:) We smoked German cigars we took off of prisoners when we captured them...... they were cabbage leaves with the outside being cigar leaf. YUK...

This afternoon I just returned from talking a military unit around the Normandy battlefields, (Including Sword beach, Hillman and Goiodwood. I found a parcel from a sapper of a different generation. Auld Yin sent me a copy of "Cameos of War" by D Day Veteran and all round splendid chap Brian Guy for knowing more than anyone else on ARRSE about 246 Fd coy RE ;)

Seriously. Swordsman's memoir is a very good read as well as the first hand account. .Mush of the discussion ofn several threads on this site would be far better informed if more had read this memoir..

I am currently drafting a novel set with the 101st Airborne Division in Market Garden, and I had intended to include the Clarkair CA-1 Airborne Tractor. I researched the glider insertion of a CA-1 with the 1st British Airborne, and many glider landings with the Americans in Burma. However, I have not found any record of a CA-1 deployed with the 101st Airborne

Can you point me toward any other sources that might confirm (or deny) a CA-1 deployed during Market Garden with the 326th Airborne Engineers?

BTW, all my 101st references at the soldier level have nothing but praise for the Brits they worked with.
