The point was that Europeans emulate American habits and styles. Because we're cool!

Poppy posted the following Rockabilly video which I'd never heard before, so I googled the band to learn they are an Swiss-Italian-British band doing American Rockabilly. Why? Because Rockabilly is cool.

And if you want to catch the act, you can see them at the upcoming Route 66 festival in Aarburg, Switzerland. And while you're there you can catch all the vintage American cars, because vintage American cars are cool and draw crowds.

Indeed! Why the Hell nobody wants to emulate Angola, for example???

Of course they try to replicate the USA. During sixties - seventies German bands wrote lyrics exclusively in English. When I was a kid, my favourite actor was John Wayne and then, later Clint Eastwood. Cool guys. In many countries people imitate Americans and implement American trchnologies and business models because of the efficiency. Under the hood essentials remain unchanged. Even some ethnic communities in America keep tradition. I have eaten fantastic genuine Italian food in Middle Village (where Mafia made sure nothing happened).

But how can countries with a GDP below 10.000 per capita emulate America?

 

I don't know what a BDP is, but I'll guess it has something to do with income? GDP? You're missing my point. Popular culture doesn't have a price tag. A pirated music CD or a fake pair of Levi's made in Malaysia, still spell America across the world.

I've made the cross country trip many times, the latest last year when my younger son ETS'ed from the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, CA. Then down Jeff's way you have Mobile, Alabama, the battleship USS Alabama, and nearby Gulf Shores with it's beautiful white beaches and clear water.





and up my way you have beautiful Chattanooga, Tn, with it's mountains and numerous Civil War battlefields.

Well we southerners do pride ourselves on our hospitality, the invitation is sincere as I am sure Jeff's is. I live in Georgia but am originally from Louisiana. The part of Georgia I live in is on the Tennessee, Alabama line. My paternal family was originally from Virginia and South Carolina and settled here in the 1840's. So my extended family is all over this part of Georgia, southeast Tennessee and east Alabama. On the maternal side they're from Louisiana and east Texas, so the maternal side is all scattered about that area. My father was a career Marine and was due to deploy so my mom went to live with her relatives in Louisiana while he was to be gone, hence how I ended up being born there. I came a little early so I did arrive before he was deployed. Unfortunately, he and my uncle were out drinking at bars on the Amite River (access only by boat at the time) the night I arrived, got drunk, sank the boat and had to walk 25 miles or so through the swamps the get to a road. Hence my lifelong love of boats, water, bars, alcohol. Where you find the latter four items you also normally find quantities of attractive loose women, hence my many years of chasing them, (my wife made me give them up, damn her!). Because my dad was a Marine we lived in many places across the US, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Pensacola, FL, New Orleans, San Antonio, TX. When I was a kid I also got to go stay with relatives over the summers. I spent several in Baton Rouge, and French Settlement, LA, one in Las Vegas, NV with my maternal grandparents, and many a summer on the beach in North Carolina, Pensacola, San Diego, Los Angeles, and Oceanside while we were living there.

It's not just America, all people should and do find themselves attached to their homeland, and most places have their own unique beauty. I think most people have a primal attachment to their native soil.

 

Thanks USMCPrice. San Antonio is definitely the crown jewel of Texas. Come down during Fiesta Week and you will never see another city party like San Antonio does during Fiesta week. Along with the Alamo, y'all must see the rest of the missions. There is even a working aquifer.
