Hey all, Introducing myself . . I am Michael, a 29 year old music teacher from Sydney, Australia. I have joined the forum to share my stories and learn from others. My father who passed away in 2011 was born during WWII, his grandfather fought in WWI as a soldier. . my dads mother was on a ferry boat on Sydney habour in 1942 when a japanese midget sub sank the HMAS Kuttabul. . So growing up, my father was introduced into war history which he passed onto me at a young age. I have great memories of watching WWII movies with Dad. . Dad collected general militaria . . and I spent most of my time as a 5 - 9 year old dressed up as an 8th Air Force B-17 pilot I must of watched memphis belle, the war lover and twelve o'clock high each every week or just about . . Anyway, I have a thousand stories about amazing pieces of militaria that my father passed onto me. . Great stories of being invited to a Pearl Habour suriviors reunion and being given Roy Burgstrom's (USS Patterson) Pearl Habour survivors pin just before he passed away. That same day my Dad had a little american flag that he got a bunch of Pearl Habour surivors to sign which they also noted what ship they served on. . I found it under my bed the other day after having it locked away for years. . reading names of survivors from the USS Nevada and even the Oklahoma . . very special stuff. I look forward to sharing stories and learning with you all . . Cheers, Michael.
G'day Michael, I'm also from Australia I'd love to hear some of the stories you have collected over the years. We also have great members like Smiley, von, and cac who are always there to help.
Thanks mate! I've recently started taking a big interest in ww2 again . . I grew up learning from my dad who was very much a hobbyist historian. . So I am a little rusty with my knowledge as its been a long long time. . But I'll definately be sharing what I can and showing off some great bits and pieces from my dads collection over time. cheers
