    Hi!

I have a triky question for all of you!
I read that US paratroopers jumped over sainte mère l'Eglise zone, had fight againts panzers during the afternoon of the 6th june. Thes panzers could be Renault 35, but I can not confirm that.

By the way, someone have more information about that, and specially, what unit the panzers belong, what were the insignias or emblem used by this unit, ect...

    Thanks for your helps guys!

edit: just correcting a forums function problem

    Comet,
To the best of my knowledge, no panzers of any description were available to 91st Luftlande Division, which took the brunt of the landings by 82nd Airborne Division. By the afternoon most of the Germans (Who were badly disorganised by the landings, right on the edge of their assembly area.) had pulled out of the town, forming a defensive line slightly to the west of the town, whilst 709th Inf. sealed them in from the north and 2nd Fsj. Div.'s 6th Fsj. Regt. (Attached to 91st LL.) blocked the roads south.
No Panzer units were in the area. I would be interested to know where the info. came from.

    Regards,

    Rich.

    Well,

th info came from Militaria french magazine, which contains some 82th paratroopers testimony and specialy, the testimony of Private Heims (who is now a famous judge of NY)awarded for the destruction of three (renault r35?) german tanks on la fière bridge. If you want I can send you an email with the french article.

    Well, well...

I found this info into Militara magazine (a french one!)There's a testimony from Private Heims awarded for his bravour combat againts three german Tanks (renault R35)on the Fière Bridge (just a few miles from St mère). He explains how he and private anderson bloked with a bazooka three tanks and troops coming from Cauquigny, village.

I read too, another testimony from an ancient of 82th explaining his close combat with a Renault tank on the noth Carentan zone during the 6th morning

If you want I can send you both french articles

    Mito,
I don't doubt you, but I would like to see the articles, especially if any identification markings are on the vehicles.

    Hi Richard!

My scanner doesn't work so I can not send you the article. By the way I was reading the "objectif sainte mere eglise" book and I found it all the information.

Apparently, on the 6th june there was two panzer units:

the 100 Panzer-Abeitlung (headquarter on Franquetot) a training unit equiped with panzer III, and french tanks like Chars B1bis and renault R35.

the 709 Panzerjager-Bataillon (headquarter on Montebourg).

If my scanner wants to work again I will try to send the articles and a map with all the german units on normady during the 6th

You mean as in captured french tanks? If you read the Longest day there are several acounts of a German soldier in a French panzer being blown clear out of the hatch when a paratrooper drops some sort of an explosive inside the tank.
