Hi, all, My name is Logan. I'm just a 16-year-old from Ohio, U.S., with a passionate interest in WWII and history in general. I've been interested in WWII for about 4 years now, and have been collecting militaria from the era—as well as the Cold War era—since. I've also taken up reenacting, where I am a part of the 2nd Panzer Division of the Wehrmacht. What sparked this interest was when I went on a field trip for school to an Air Force base and museum in 6th grade, where I saw a decent WWII display—I fell in love. More and more I researched, hounding my family members about my great grandfather, who served in the U.S. Army and received the Bronze Star for allegedly dragging a wounded man through German artillery fire. Meanwhile, my cousins "across the pond," joined the SS, my cousin Friedrich, "Fritz," fighting on the Western Front, and my cousin Werner fighting as a tanker on the Eastern Front. Unfortunately, like many men that fought, they never made it home; cousin Fritz was killed near Laon, on the first day of Case Red of the Invasion of France, and cousin Werner was killed fighting the Soviets, his body never recovered. I've joined this forum primarily to get input on specific questions I can't quite seem to find on Google and whatnot, as well as just general research facts. I hope to see you all soon and learn much more about this fascinating period in our human history. Tschüß, Logan
Welcome to the forum. do you by chance speak German ? Sorry to hear about your cousins. If you were 16 and in Germany during the war you could have well ended up in the Hitler Jugend and may have been in Normandy, D-Day's anniversary being upon us. I am glad you are here and safe and your interest shows up well in your introduction. MFG, Gaines
Hi Logan. Glad you could join us. You have a rather unique perspective, with relatives on both sides. We welcome anything you have to contribute, or questions you would like to investigate. Have fun on the forum.
Thank you all for the warm welcomes—as well as the condolences, I might add. Always nice to communicate with fellow history buffs, let alone such polite ones And yes, I am a German student, as of this moment. Going into German II in the Fall.
