I fear the Nationalist Genie. Once out of the bottle the serfs start wondering why it can not apply to them. The upcoming border checkpoints are going to be a cause of friction and will re-ignite old wounds. Clearly the DUP are rattled that Sinn Féin will come out on top and the recently revealed mystery 'donation' it got from a Brexit backer and used to run adds in London http://www.irishnews.com/opinion/leadingarticle/2017/02/20/news/dup-must-explain-brexit-donation-937121/ shows they can be bought. The DUP are also up to their necks in the RHI scandal (Welfare for DUP families & friends) http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/rhi-scandal-dup-mlas-carla-lockhart-and-william-irwin-reveal-family-members-have-boilers-under-the-botched-green-energy-scheme-35392405.html they need to distract from this with a good old Catholic v Protestant punch-up. Add to this the emboldened Scots Nationalists I see very troubled times ahead.
Brings to an end an overlong and tedious exchange; conclusion you do not have to be young and well educated to be right and a winner.
Divide and Rule appears to be working excellently. In attacking each other, we are falling into same trap that had been used successfully for generations. Let's blame the Muslims, Jews, those on benefits, immigrants, English, Scots, EU, disabled, pensioners and those without a degree. (Feel free to chose your own). We should be rising up and challenging the government and that includes all parties. A revolution is needed.
You do not have to be but on 'average' more of the 'young and well educated' Pro EU voter will be 'right and a winner' than will 'over 50 less well educated' Brexiters. That is not just my opinion. I only repeat the results of the survey that found the information on the educational standard of the average 'Pro' and 'Anti' EU voter.
It is not so much 'divide and rule' as the determination of the Brexiters to impose their will on everyone and allow no one else any say in how we leave. They are under the false impression that it is a legal requirement that all who oppose them have to take a vow of silence and eschew all legal remedies to place limits on their delusional dreams.
I have seen many a General Election. They always start with the new broom announcing the dawn of a new Camelot where they will end all the previous strife and unite the nation. They never have yet. All parties of all persuasions become the system they say they want to replace and end up being the establishment. Public mood changes. Right replace Left and in turn is replaced by Left when the public mood swings back. I smile as I observe the believers in the final dawning of a new age of the Alt Right. I know what is coming. Trump will end up being as reviled as both Thatcher and Blair were at the end of their disastrous terms and his only 'advantage' is that he has nearly reached that level loathing before he took Office. Enjoy your crowing while you can is all I would caution. As sure as night follows day this is all going to end in tears and be replaced by a left leaning regime that will in turn crash and burn and be replace by a right wing regime........etc..etc..etc. That's the advantage of age. You learn that you are always always always let down by your heroes.
So what are you arguing about if it all ends up the same? Why not just chill and let it all wash over you?
Margaret Hilda Roberts was not universally reviled.... if she was, Gentleman John Major wouldn't have won the following election (Party tainted by the Dear Leader and all that).
Well you could be said to be 'arguing 'yourself. As to why I reply I do it just to show these type of boards are not the exclusive domain of the far right. I like to hear them howl and I believe any group of self-reinforcing anything is a bad thing. If their was no opposite view you could be fooled into thinking 'you' were right and no one else is against you ergo all opposition you encounter elsewhere is a tiny group than can be ignored.
That all depends on where you live in the UK. Any attempt to recast Thatcher as a unifying figure is doomed to failure. Much talk of 'Muslim' riots today but I remember the riots under Thatcher. By far the worst seen since before WW2 It would be wise to remember her cabinet was of the opinion she was not quite right in the head towards the end. Perhaps a simple analogy. There are a lot who would say those people who today defend Blair for all his successes are the mirror image of those who defend Thatched for hers. Now look at those who say this about Blair. Do you think they are deluded? Is there any chance you might allow for the fact they see any support for Thatcher in exactly the same way? Major was a decent man and that was his downfall. He was indiscrete enough to articulate his thoughts on the Conservative Party wreckers-The Bastards- and they repaid this favour by splitting the party over..........Europe! I have seen Goldsmith start his own Political Party (Refendum Party)and the Social Democrat rise and fall. Seen many BNP revivals and the UKIP rise. I am quite well informed on the politics of the UK since the 1960s. I can even remember watching a news interview with George Brown outside the House Of Commons where he was clearly drunk as a skunk.
I agree, Margaret was somewhat past her 'Best By' date when she was turfed out. But then that is the reason why most of them go anyway. Not making excuses, it's just the way it is. I could say more about Gordon Brown......but won't.....at least he knew when to get out of politics. Probably he should have a word with Tony 'War Criminal' Bliar. Must go. Post on WW2talk about 24th Lancers at Rauray may be beckoning ;-)
Oh dear. UKIP (a sanitised UK version of the T Party) has just failed in its bid to oust a Labour MP and their rabid anti-EU Leader Paul Nuttall was comprehensively rejected by the electorate. UKIP were soooo confident they would prevail. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-39064149
