No, what he's saying is that since the 90mm had trouble (not impossible, just not 100%) penetrating the glacis of the later Panthers, it really would have been difficult for it to penetrate the front glacis of the King Tigers. Cooper was there with the 3rd Armored in charge of divisional tank maintainence. This particular event was second-hand info from other members of the division, but it squares with my Post-war Aberdeen test reference. I'm still working on my source for that, since I read it probably 10 years ago.
No, you said that Pershings couldn't penetrate Panthers. Then you say that since they can't penetrate the front of a King Tiger, it proves your point, which it doesn't.
No, they said they had trouble penetrating the glacis of a Panther. Since, as you've stated the King Tiger had 70mm more armor there, it can be assumed (Mr. Cooper did) that it would have even more trouble penetrating the glacis of a King Tiger.
Yes I agree completely, but on an earlier post you expressed doubt about my referencing an Aberdeen test after VE Day where the 90mm had trouble piercing the glacis of a late model Panther. This isn't the Aberdeen test I'm still searching for, but it's the same subject.
Put the PANTHER is not the KING TIGER. Saying the Pershing can't penetrate the Panther because it can't penetrate the King Tiger is an ignorant statement.
My point is the exact opposite. And you're preaching to the choir because, overall, I think the Pershing was the best tank of WWII.
Ooopsie, I was supposed to edit your post but instead I replied witha quote and without saying anything. The idea was to change 'stupid' into 'ignorant' in your post as this is a lot less offensive. I just did so.
Fighting a war across oceans means logistics are very important. If you build 10.000 super tanks that are perfect instead of 20.000 Shermins but you cannot ship them in enough numbers what good are they. One super tank verse having 20 more Shermins? Since tanks shoot at many times more things then tanks I would want the 20 Shermins.
Hi Skip, and welcome to the forum. Slightly off topic perhaps, but I can´t resist asking you : Why do you insist on calling the Sherman tank "Shermin" ?
Well, at least you´re consistent. I was beginning to think it was some sort of pet-name or maybe a weird dialect a wasn´t aware of.
Okay, Lyndon, in a Tiger I, and Danile, In a Pershing, go at starting from 2000m! May the best tank win. I'm really not usre which one I would want to be in, but to equip an army, I'd much rather have the Pershing.
Are you kidding? I can drive a Sherman, no problem. But I don't quite know how to do anything in a Pershing. Except, that is, read the optic.
Yes he was kidding, Danyel. Where would he get a working Tiger I for a race? Welcome to the forum Skip. I believe I've said this before...
You haven't seen my garage. There could be anything in there, although it is unlikley that any of it is in working order!
