Well, all I asked for was the type so technically you've won... :D

OK yes the first Trans-Oceanic attack was carried out by Mitsubishi G3M Nells on the 14 August 1937 when Nells based in Taipei attacked targets in China some 1,250 miles away.

Open to the next person to ask a question.

What (at least according to Bill Gunston's memories) does the "O" in Mirage IIIO stand for?
    Clue:

    Really it is Ostralia

The IIIO was for Australia but as the IIIA already existed the used the O...so it became Ostralia :D

Yup, Orstrilia was the spelling used (in a broad Strine accent): it was Dassault's marketing exec's sense of humour!
    Ome Joop's question.

With this hot weather it's not nice to ask hard questions...so:
What was the first aircraft to supercruise?

    The Gnats!
The aircraft ,i think, was developped by Kurt Tank around 1955 for India. It's name (sabre killers) was taken during the idian-pakistani war of 1965

Developed by W. E. W. Petter, as a lightweight fighter. It first flew in 1955, as you say, and India was its main user. Britain used it as a trainer (and for the Red Arrows & other display teams)

The Folland Gnat has a special place in my heart as it was the first model kit I ever built... :)

Oh thanks for the information! I finally found out that the aircraft K.Tank developed was HF-24.

    Now a question:
Which was the first all metal (most accurately steel) aircraft of all times?
