I'd prefer to serve in RAF and fly Spitfires and/or Tempests (I like more FW190D or Ta-152 but most of the time were grounded and/or not used for their actual purpose). My second preference would be a paratrooper.

If I was forced to fly, I'd serve in the USAF and go shootin' down Bf109s in a P47. P47 'cause it's durable. I'm not a fan of rollercoasters, and having to manuver a lot in say, a P51 resembles a rollercoaster on steriods. If I was forced to fight on the ground, then I'll drive King Tigers because they are the most heavily armored tanks. :D Or maybe I'll just settle for a Pershing, because they are the most heavily armored tanks the US had.

King Tigers were mostly wasted in ill-organized battles were their advantages were not enough to save them. For example their first use in combat was very disapointing as they suffered serious losses by well placed T-34/85 waiting in ambush.

Lemme' guess, the T34s waited in ambush, then blast the King Tiger's side and rear armor like their lives were on the line (which they were, 'cause King Tigers outmach T34s in head-on fights) and the King Tigers are overwhelmed by the sheer number of 75s going to their sides and glutes. That's why I've decided against driving one. It's either Pershing, or JS-II, or Tiger I.

All those tanks face the same problem. In fact, all tanks face the same problem. No armoured vehicle is invincible on a contemporary battlefield; all of them can in fact be destroyed in one way or another by rudely common AT weapons such as the Russian 85mm gun (as seen on the T34/85) or the German Pak40.

You're totally right of course. Every tank is built for a certain purpose and needs apropriate protection. When i first started to read about tanks i knew alread the 'invincible" tiger/kingtiger. You can imagine my surprise to read how easily they were decimated ,when misused, by the far more organised allied armies...

i don't fancy my chances in any army... But the role I'd least like to serve in would be a German serving on the Eastern Front... This is because there are 6 possibilities.

    1. Get shot

    2. Get captured, then shot

    3. Get captured, sent to Siberia, and then shot

    4. Get captured, sent to Siberia, work as a penal laborer for 5 years, then get shot

    5. Get captured, sent to Siberia, work as a penal laborer for 5 years, get sent home to East Germany, get arrested, then get shot

    6. Get captured, sent to Siberia, work as a penal laborer for 5 years, get sent home to East Germany, and live in a controlling repressive system for the rest of your life

only number 6 is not altogether terrible :-?

Nah. I like the Tiger I's boxy turret. It looks WAY cooler than the Tiger II's comparitvely narrow one IMO.

I just would like to be a RAF pilot fighting the Battle Of Britain...If my plane were shot, I will not fall in enemy hands, then I will fly again.

I also would like to participate in the chase of the Bismark, dropping a lethal Bomb from my little Swordfish

Well, "Sunny" Italy is everthing but sunny. Cold and rainy from autum till spring and the only thing you'll be eating is a K-ration.

As for me, i changed (oke, still want to be in command of a BB like the Litorio or Sharnhorst but i also want to be something else). I think i'll join the SAS (the belgian section off course). Secret operations behind enemy lines. i love it (or s**t my pants, i guess it would be the second that i'll do first and then get on with the job)

    D Day Dodgers

The D.Day Dodgers song is sung to the tune of Lili Marlene. If you want to see 'sunny Italy' have a look at 'Caption No.2.!!
More verses, many units made up their own,....

'Once we had a 'blue-light' that we were going home,(blue light, rumour)
Back to dear old Blighty never more to roam,
Then someone said "In france you'll fight,"
We said "Sod that, we'll just sit tight"
For we're the D. Day Dodgers, out in Italy.

Then on the way to Florence we had a lovely time,
They ran a bus to Rimini right through the Gothic Line,
Soon to Milano we shall go,
When we've chased Jerry across the Po,
For we're the D.Day Dodgers, in sunny Italy.
