Some questions about the M-26

I think if I had a choice between a Sherman And a M26 I take the M26

 

That depends on the circumstances I guess. Tankers in Korea were very happy with M26 and its 90mm gun when they encountered enemy tanks, but they began to prefer the Sherman as soon as the North Koreans ran out of tanks.

Surely more power would have been nice however it wasn't as bad as you make it appear. The power/weight ratio was 11.9 HP /ton. This compares with 10.0 HP / ton for the King Tiger, 11.0 HP/ton for the IS3 and 12.1 HP/ton for the Tiger I. Additionally the M-26 was the model for the M-47/48 series leading up to the M-60 of the 60s-70s. On the other hand tanks like the Comet were a dead end design with unsloped armor and led to no significant innovation in future models AFAIK.
The 90mm gun was not groundbreaking but was adequate to handle essentially any opposing tank of the day.

 

All of which tend to be referred to as underpowered...
