I have a S&W Model 640 snubnose in .357Magnum. I want to get a few more revolvers. Military revolvers are getting expensive though.

I haven't fired one of those new S&W .500 Magnums yet. I hear they are a lot of thunder.

I've a Webley , more as a collector's item (it was a gift from a friend) and although when a bear broke into our mud kitchen it saved my life, l don't particularly care for it-nor for revolvers in general..although quite often at the rangel "sawp" guns with other shooters. l've never developed a taste for revolvers.. The only one l developed a healrhy admiration for was a Smith @ Wesson . "Russian" 44 caliber :smok:

From what I've read, which loading of the factory ammo you shoot makes a lot of difference. The light bullet loadings recoil heavily. The heavy bullet loadings can break your wrist. Gun dealers apparently have a lot of second-hand models which have only fired one or two shots.

It's where machismo crosses over into masochism...

Tony; you are correct. There are quite a few coming onto the used market now. The thing is S&W designed and marketed them as a big game hunting pistols. It's not a target shooting gun by no means. Too much gun for some folks.

Some of my customers have asked about them. I'm a licensed firearms dealer as a side business. I tell them it's not a good pistol for casual shooting or home defense. I would really like to see that caliber in a lever action carbine. :D

scaramouche; I load ammo for my bossman's Webley. His was converted to take .45ACP ammo with moon clips but I've been loading .455 Mk II for it. It's a neat gun. I'd like to have one in good condition.

Calhoun, a couple of people l know in New York did what you mention with their Webleys.. (actually you can fire .45s as is inb the Webley..or so they claimed..The one l have was a gift from a friend-(l actually had to fabricate a new firing pin for it in my workshop..It came with several boxes of cartridges, but they were old and and a friend actually took care of the reloads..I missed buying a Lefacheux mod. 1870 11 mm a few years ago and a ridiculously affordable price-but was my carry on luggage was already overlodead withh books, three helmets, and l passed it up! l could still kick myself when l think of it...Mind you, l still don't care for revolvers, but as collector's pieces they are ok.. :p :p :p
    Best Regards :smok:

black powder pistols are the only form of pistol still legal in england except for 2ft (60cm) long, pistol caliberd carbines (long barreled pistols)
they are various revolvers that are huge and weigh a ton

I've always wondered whether the revolver enjoys any advantages over the magazine-fed semi-automatic handgun.

Two comes to my mind right away:

    1) Reliability: Revolvers tend to be more reliable than magazine-fed pistols. Yes I know, nowadays good pistols are very, very reliable. But if you encounter malfunctioning ammunition, all you need to do with revolver is to pull trigger again, with pistol you need to manually operate its firing cycle. Pistols are also more sensitive to what kind of ammunition you use, too weak ammunition might not be powerful enough to operate its cycle and dirty ammunition might cause other stoppages.

    2) Ability to use multiple ammunition types: For example, with .357 Magnum you can use .38 special ammunition. This, however, doesn't work other way around.

another is you can always keep it loaded because in semi's the magazine spring gets lose and doenst feed properly but in a revolver you dont have any of that

Revolvers are usually nicer to shoot. They have better grip, balance, and aim. They also have better looks.
