Does anyone know what was the biggest gun calibre ever mounted on a tank (pre war, post war, modern day)

P:S: This is not a quiz.

That would depend on what you count as a tank. If you include armoured assault guns, I'd think it's 152 mm., but if it's only conventional tanks, I'd say it's 122 mm.

for a TD: 128 mm, in the case of the jagdtiger,
for a tank: 122 mm for the JS series( but realy is IS)

    How about the SU-152?

As for the JS vs. IS debate, ifyou write in English, you must write JS. The Cyrillic alfabeth doen't have an equivilant to a J, so therefore J is written as an I in Cyrillic. This isthesameway as there is no equivilant to a J in Hebrew, however biblical names (such as Jesus) are still spelled with a J, and not an I.

If you so wish to write in Cyrillic letters, that is of course fine, however you've have to use it in all words, so that
    • JS becomes IS
    • KV becomes KB
    • SSSR becomes CCCP
    • Moscow becomes MOCKBA
    and so forth.

Current Russian 125mm smoothbore (if you mean guns to see service).

NATO played with a 140mm but decided it wasn't needed. The Chinese are apparently introducing a gun of this calibre in their latest tank. The Russians have gone to around 150+mm in one design, not yet built I think.

The US Sheridan tank (1960's) was an "air-droppable" tank that had a 152 mm gun/missile launcher. The combat engineer vehicle that was built on the M60A1 chassis and turret had a 165 mm demolition gun.

Then Russian 125-mm 2A46 gun (used in T-72, T-80 etc) must be a missile launcher, not a gun.

The Karl-Gerät wasn't mounted on a tank chassis, it was merely a self-propelled mortar.

It had tracks, yes, but then a lot of industrial machines are tanks too.

Whatever. I'm not that good when it comes to naming tanks. I just copy-pasted that name from panzerworld.net

I think that zerkalli has found the winner with the KV-2's 152.4mm gun.

    Any advance?
