You must be quite young? I wonder have you gone thru NS and which part of service do you serve?

Singapore Armed forces is never meant to be invasive or agressive. Our leaders ustd too well that Singapore do not have defensive depth and thus SAF will be use as a force projection for self defend purposes only. That also meant that Pre-emptive strike are part of our plan. On the other hand, it doesn't make sense for SAF to be involve in endless armed race, (we are rich but we dun hv natural resources, meaning our $ will run out) thus it is also understandable that our militray purchase works on "counter" instead of trying to buying more and match up. eg are Apache against possible MAF purchase of Polish T90 (not T55 or T52). Increase our FH2000 range against MAF Casear MLRS. More F16D block52 to penerate and counter the lack of defensive depth thus bring the war to possible aggressor (which is likely to be only one country). Taking lesson from the Israelis during 6 day war and Yom kippur war, that's why SAF invest SO much in maintaining the Strongest Airforce in SEA. Our MBT are not based in S'pore, but will only be ship back to S'pore during DEFCON2 to "complement" the apache strike. Our Navy is only meant to accompany our "Marine" force for insertion into enemy backyard, the frigate and Sub is meant as an counter to possible interruption to this force insertion (Above infomations are all extract from TIM HUXLEY "Defending the Lion City, The Armed Forces of Singapore").

There are really not much reason to believe war will come to us consideration current politics around SEA. The biggest threat now is the Terrorist threaten. we only need 1 bomb to go off in this SMALL RED dot of the world, you can see the ST index dive straight now and follow by recession. The real enemy is Terrorist threat now, while possible aggressor is obviously Msia and Indon, evidence by their PARA drop during our national day parade some years ago. Thks goodnes their ecom are in bad shape, therefore messing up their arm purchases and build up.

Last but not least, i can't speak for you, but if Singapore were to be invaded, as a Conscript soldier and reservist myself, I WILL FIGHT AND DIE for Singapore, not for PAP but for my loved ones. How about you?

OIC, enjoy ur NS, frogman :p

Anyway, the AMX13 as well as the M113 are there for a reason. Measure the width of passage between the rubber & oil palm plantation and interestingly it matches the width of our armour, including the Bix IFV. The AMX13 75mm main gun are tested with upgraded ammo that prove to penentrate T72's armour although it is almost directly copy from German WW2 Panther 75mm main gun more than 60 years ago). So ... AMX13 seems to suits our Terrain and good old workhorse it is! Maybe that's why SAF are not urgently seeking replacement, althought they have tested a quite handful already.
