The army of Iran is no better trained or led than any other Muslim army of the region. Many, if not most, of the aircraft listed are likely not combatworthy. The same is likely to be true for the tanks and other AFV. Fanaticism must be taken into account, of course, but not everyone supports the Tehran government. As to casualties, your guess is as good as anyone else's.

I imagine that as in Iraq, casulaties from military operations would be relatively light. The only way Iran can oppose the US military is by using suicide attacks and IEDs. I would expect it to be similar to what has been occurring in Iraq. A thorn in the side but no real opposition militarily. Personally, I hope it doesn't come to that.

The iranian military tough a lot bether than the iraqi one would not be a great threat for western forces.

However as already pointed out controling the country would show incredibly difficult.
It already is in Iraq, and one must know that Iran has 3-4 times the population of Iraq, 5 times it's size, and contrary to Iraq, Iran is very mountaineous.

Also, Iran is not a multiethnic country as Iraq, and it's people are likely to be more united in case of a foreign attack.

yeah castelot iran is an absolute other story than iraq . of course they will loose the air war but on the ground the iranians are tough fighters willing to sacrifice them self they hold saddam back with the military leadership in jail shoot or in exil no spare parts for their western made equitment
if us attack iran at all costs us will win clearly but only with high casualties of 1000-1500 per month i dont think that the us public would accept this
iam also a member of http://iranmilitaryforum.com/forum/index.php check this out we have many us iran scenarios there

Oh, I´ve just seen a docu about the Stryker-Brigade showing one of their first combat sorties in Samarra, they´re damn good and
a result of the Bush-administration´s doctrine, at least the Stryker combines precision, speed and information, the basics of Bush´s doctrine.

Yes, it is an anti-RPG device.

Most Western Equipment in the Iranian Armed Forces will be no longer working, as they have been cut off from spares etc since the Islamic Revolution.

The US could win the war, but I doubt they could "win the peace".

Agreed. I can live without another war in that region.

the next attack will be using US supplied aircraft carrying US and Israeli developed munitions guided by European satellites - a truly Western collaberation.

I agree for the air war beeing a shooee in but the irannians are a pretty nationalistic bunch , so no peace with an invader EVER will be the line
they also are good friends and are owned a lot of favors in irak and
afghanistan by the local shias , so massive civilian and guerilla actions are bound to explode all over the gulf region .the irannians also control the straights of Ormuz and can cut about half of the worls oil flow ,

so the picture is irak in flame with the U.S. forces pretty stretched and no
local support at all , NATO probably pulling out of afghanistan rather than
beeing caught in such a stuffup , petrol at 200$ a barrel ,the draft
instituated , stockmarkets crashing everywere, the U.S budget deficit
going to the moon and the dollar becoming monopoly money .

That last bit didn't make much sense. Since the price of oil is expressed in dollars per barrel, this is already pretty much a monopoly currency. What makes you think an oil crisis would make it more so?

the U.S.of A. since the end of second world war have been in the
excellent position to have the dollard as the de facto world currency ,
all the world trading and pricing is done as dollard referenced
if people holding dollards loose confidence in the currency either due to
the huge U.S. trade deficit or /and the huge budget deficit those dollard
holding would be dumped ,any thing denominated in dollard would see
    it's price correspondigly increase

the chinese central bank is siting on 870 billions alone , as such it possess
    a huge atomic financial bomb.

I'm not making this up , it's not even controversial . and it's basic
economics . check it out with any pencil pusher you can, they can be fun
    when drunk

Delivered by whom, pray tell? The USA has enough on its plate right now, and I doubt very highly that the Europeans would ever try anything of a military nature under any circumstances.

Three reasons why an attack on Iran would be very difficult:

Iran is no Iraq, Sunburn missiles and the like, and Massive Iranian influence in Iraq.

All Iran has to do is escalate the war.

By the way corpcasselbury, the Saudi armed forces are significantly powerfull. The The only three nations to have the M1A2 are the Saudis, the Americans, and the Kuwaitis. (Egypt has the M1A1). The Saudis also have F-15s.

I'm aware of this. However, you said:

As if the dollar would only become monopoly money as a result of an oil crisis. It is in fact one of the causes of the debilitating effect of an oil crisis, not a result of one.

I'm American and I love my Country and President but invading anther country is out of the question since no one supports us in war (besides the Brits and Aussies and some other) I would not like a war unless we have Europe behind us.
