    As this seems to be the season for silly stories, I'll add my bit.
    "He was probably in the 'Apple Corp'"
    or even if in the Nederland army the "Orange Pippins".
    or even if a member of the 'Womens Land Army' thr "Granny Smiths".
    or even the Francofile Gay Movement the "French Delicious"

    split subject

    you are quite correct, this thread is going in the wrong direction, let's get back on 'track', let's concentrate on the apple!
    If he had used a 'toffee apple' it could have been used as a sticky bomb!

    If the apple was baked and stuffed with raisins would it be a fragmentation Apple?

    az abuv.

    Now come on Cholbert, be serious please, you don't want viewers of this
    to think that we are a bunch of comics.
    The war diaries of the 3rd. Carabineers tell that when in Burma they lost a tank because the Japs had spread Banana skins on a dodgy bend and it skidded into the Irrawaddy where the crew were eaten by trained piranas.
    (We could do another split thread here)
    'Your favourite fruit/vegatable of WW2,
    " worst " " "

    The pineapple - another classic fragmentation fruit.

    Guava halves have to be the worst - no matter how you sharpen them they just dont work. (ask Blackadder)

    (yes it is silly :D )

    Well I looked for "Chunkies" and found

    a. A cornish woollen sweater
    b. A company selling chocolate boxes for teh xorporate environment
    c. Pioneers!

    My personal preference is to think it's the pioneers armed with Pineapple chunks as they could be more reliable than the SA80.

    (Come out of that tank or we'll chunk you! :D )

    Correct Cholbert,
    PIONEERS = PINEAPPLES,
    PINEAPPLES = PINEAPPLES CHUNKS,
    Pineapple Chunks = CHUNKIES!!!
    Well done that man,
    "The enemy are as thick as peas Sir, What shall we Do?"
    "Shell em".
