"That Book" on the development of armour

"Iron Fist," by Bryann Perrett - Classic Armoured Warfare (Cassel Military Publications) is a great book guys. I wanted to post it here because it has an excellent section on the Armoured Warfare before WWII. It deals with the original tanks - really armoured cars, and the victories and achievements which they made because they were new, and the enemy had not seen them.

Actually, the first real Armoured Car battles of WWI were fought in Russia, by an (ex?) Royal Navy Squadron of Armoured Cars, owned by a British Lord (who's name escapes me atm) and who were very successful in stopping the Axis forces.

It then moves into the first tank battles, the MkI tanks, Male and Female. An interesting story is that the MkI tanks were very feared by the Germans, for obvious reasons. They found, however, that by widening their trentches they could stop the tank from crossing, and that their special K-(9?) (I believe it was) ammo was able to get through the tank. So, they widened all their trenches and ordered huge supplies of the ammo, which, when it came out, the Axis started to run upto tanks and try to kill them with it. However, the British had brought out the more armoured, longer, MkII...which German Rifles could not shoot through, and which could cross wider trenches...

Anyhow - it's a great book, very detailed - I'm not finished yet, however the pre-WWII section is excellent!

I have been sent this book by the very kind Cholbert, and as soon as I get round to reading it (he sent a very big box!) I'll post my views...

 

I read it while on holidays. Small text, takes a while to read, excellent facts and an intriguing book.

Actually most of the spam we get here is for medication and such. I have a strong suspicion that the posts end up here because it is the middle section in the list, not counting the Gaming section which cannot be seen by guests. That is to say, it's a bot doing this.

Next time the Admin go to Brussels for the weekend, can they please delegate someone the authority to deal with stuff like these spammers?

I know you two have your hands full keeping the boards free of spammers as it is, but if you know you're going to be away in advance can you not temporarily promote one of the moderators who will be around to Admin to keep an eye on things in your absence? Or failing that make it a full time position?

 

Normally it would not matter, as Moderators have the ability to delete/moderate posts in their own sections. Except the moderator for this section was Ricky...
