Hello, I'm looking for information about the tanks involved in the Serafimovitch battle in july-august 1942, against italian Celere division and 578° german infantry regiment. I know that there were T34 and light tanks, maybe BT7 or T26, but I don't know exactly. What was the units involved ? Thank you for your help, Aymeric
Some additional information on German units involved. Some Italian source hints that Seramifovich was taken on 1st August with some support of German armor, my guess is that a few units of the 22nd panzer division (Pz 38(t)s, Pz IIfs, and Pz IVfs, reinforced with a self-propelled antiaircraft company, a company of panzergrenadiers, and a company of motorized infantry (without transport) were involved. All Italian sources refer that the fighiting for the southern part of the bridghead lasted until aproximately the 15th of August. At some point (aproximately the 5th) it became involved the German 79th infantry division. Eventually, the Celere division handled the Serafomivich area to the 79th division. At that point Russian units were present (west of the river Don) only in a wooded area close to the village of Bobrosky. Later on Russians managed to expand again the bridghead.
i didnt use a website for my data i have a book about military tactics. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0811732444 heres the book i used. its great plus some of it is in German
From what I remember Wolfgang Schneider was a panther commander during wwii. I beleive he is a doctor but I am not 100% certain. He has written a number of books related to german tanks during wwii and the use of tanks in such books as Tigers in Action (i think there are several volumes). I assume he is a credible source althought I have never read any of his books althought I seen him on that ultimate top10 tanks on the discovery chanel. When they got him in the running Panther "It is louder than I remember"
ha yea well so far what ive read has been all correct so im gonna have to go with the guy that was there. his books are good though, i have some of em
I havent had the pleasure of reading any of them, the library system in my town seems to have only a few books about armour overall, hard enought to find a wwii. Althought I seen a nice encyclopedia of weapons used in wwii.
Gunter, I dont know exactly how it works in Canada, but there should be some form of "Inter Library Loan" where you can request a particular book even if the library does not have it in regular stock. You may have to pay a small fee but it will be much cheaper than buying the actual book Tom
I donno if we can do that here I might just go to central library and ask they really arent the most reliable place. They keep changing their system and search engine so its down a lot.
