I wanted to start this to see if anyone has any items from WW2 worth mentioning. Myself, I bought a tin canteen at a yard sale for a dollar. When I got it home I took it out of it’s pouch which had a faded marking on it and looked on the bottom of the tin canteen and it had ‘US SWANSON 1944’. I found out that it is worth about $70. And the Swanson is a ship.
US military items were almost always marked with the US stamp and then with the manufacturer name/code and date. WW2 stuff I have are a M-1 Garand, M-1 Carbine, Mauser K98k, Enfield No.4 Mk1*, Mosin-Nagant Model 1944 carbine, Garand web sling marked 1944, a few bayonets, rifle grenade launcher and sight for M-1/M-1903 and a few other items.
My WWII stash includes a Garand,M1 Carbine,Russian SVT 40 and a 1916 Luger my grandfather picked up somewhere in Europe.
I have a handful of old catridge cases and a few metal ammunition links, plus a couple of German spoons. Oh, and two brass model Spitfires made by melting down old cartridge cases. All came from my Grandad.
collection Most of my big stuff, helmets, daggers etc. have been passed on to family, still have big and small webbing packs, very useful. here are a few bits, most unique is the small silver RAF Pathfinder badge, the small bayonet tie pin has the word 'Antwerpen' on it , the other with the pearl hilt 'Ypres'. Got loads of other small stuff floating about. Two more bits, pre-war match case from HMS HOOD and a Yank Berlin Div.Badge.
I've a number of booklets, pamplets, and handbooks for the Consolidated B-24 Liberator. RESTRICTED Pilot-training manual, and info on all major systems related to operation, crash-landing, bailout prodedures on the B-24. Also lots of really neat, cartoon-style illustrated training handouts. Old maps used for navigation in the continental USA, a booklet on the Norden bombsight. An operational intro for pilots--2nd Air Force-Pacific Theatre circa 1944. I'm thinking I should donate these to a museum specializing in aviation-history. No idea of their value. ------------------ American Civil War tunic-badge--with 3 rungs--belonging to my ancestor Jacob Miller... who took part in Shermans' drive to the sea. 7th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry-- Company C... circa 1865. I have a pretty good collection, though it's mostly WW1 My Great Grandpas helmet, with what looks like his units insignia hand painted on the side A close up of the inside, which is in pretty good condition Heres the gasmask, not in the best of condition since it's been sitting in a box for who knows how long I also have more pics of most of his other equipment, which include, gasmask bag with filter (filter is in bad shape) Canteen, pants, shirt, jacket, first-aid kit, gasmask cleaner, and what I think is a whistle.
Just new on this forum , always been a fan of German tanks but my knowledge about them is minimal. But I know my helmets PS For those who have an interest in German helmets , check out this forum http://zline.eu/forum/index.php?act=idx.
