Canadian Tanks in WW2

How good were Canadian WW2 tanks?

 

Most of the tanks made in Canada were of British orgin with a few exceptions such as the RAM which was than used to make an SPG.

 

Thr RAM was made at about the same time as the Sherman, and was roughly equal to it (some better points, some worse).

That was the only WW2 Canadian tank, though as Gunter said Canada did produce a lot of British and American tanks (mostly Valentines and Shermans)

 

Apprently a lot of those Valentines were sent to Russia, go figure. :lol:

The only real tank Canada made was the Ram, which never saw combat. On the other hand the Canadians took the turret of their Ram tank and made it quite an effective APC.

 

Althought the RAM was the only one that was fully Canadian, you can't just ignore the production of the Canadian arms industry.

 

Absolutely.

The Canadian arms industry contributed a great deal to the war effort. Also - many of the "British" items, in particular, that were made in Canada were better quality than those produced back in war torn, resource strapped UK.

 

And let's not forget the Kangaroo, a revolutionary design, the first fully enclosed, fully tracked APC.

 

There were some turreted RAMs in use, but as artillery observation posts (dummy gun) in NWE from Normandy.

The Grizzly was built in small numbers but not deployed.
A 'Canadianized' M4A1 in fact.

 

The RAM was based on M3 Medium (Lee if you prefer) components and slightly predated the M4 IIRC.
