. excellent museum , great photos , the weirdest items are the vespa mounted 75mm recoiless gun and the folding motorcar the best is the tiger is there a better armor museum or do they get the bragging right ?? .
. photo 31 /141 , the impacts are on the left front , the armor is cracked too , it's a PZKW 4 chassis with a long 88 , look home made , but saw combat there is also ( photo 18 ) the mad motorbike with dual tracks and handle bars .
photo 31 shows a pz IV/70A not a nashorn, the nashorn have a bigger profile, very similar to the hummel, see to the left of same pic and is not home made!!!! it was build by alkett using a standard pz IV chassis, aprox. 280 produced from august 44 to march 45
. thanks for the details , the pzkw 4 chassis was really used and abused , the home made comment relate to the very boxy look , like something slapped together in a rush , still it must have been an excellent tank killer for the kettenkrad , the cross country capability must have been awsome but steering in mud got to have been hell on the wrists and shoulders!!! nobody picked up on the vespa bike with artillery on board .
not really, the tracks were used like in a tank, some even removed the front wheel while driving in rough terrain
. the germans had quite a few motorbike and side cars during the war what was the purpose for such a weird contraption as the kettenkrad, to tow something or was it a sheer display of teutonic engineering kookiness .
