I'm new to this forum - in fact new to any forum. I have a question. How many Panther tanks survive and where are they located? Can anyone help?
Welcome to the forum! One website, which has quite a few photographs from various museums, is <http://www.jagdtiger.de>. I don't think that there is any registry of all the surviving Panthers, especially since there are likely quite a few around in scrapyards around Europe, but it would certainly be interesting to make such a list (both for Panthers and other vehicles).
Thank you for the welcome. I have heard that there are 3 Panthers in the Ardennes; one at Grandmenil and another at Houfflaize (both of which I saw last week on a trip). Anyone know where the other is located?
the third is in Celles. It is basically an empty hull missing even its suspension. Aglooka EDIT: you can see it at: http://battlefieldsww2.50megs.com/celles_panther.htm
There are at least two in the USA. One at the Patton Museum at Fort Knox, Kentucky and the other at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. There are also some in the UK and France. Do not know about any in Canada.
There's one in Ottawa at the war museum http://the.shadock.free.fr/Surviving_Panthers.pdf it used to be at CFB Borden
The Patton museum has the ONLY running specimen of the Panther II if memory serves. I also believe their goal there is to restore all historical armor to running-condition. Not simply gutted hulls parked on a slab of concrete. Tim
Christian and Hoosier are correct.Aberdeen has two Panthers. An A and a G.In the instructions for a 1/35 Panther Boba is working on,two pics of Panthers are shown with the Eifful Tower in the background.Another can be found at a place called Munsterlager, wherever that may be.
Thanks to everyone who has posted regarding my Panther tanks question. But can anyone tell me what the abbreviation CCB refers to as mentioned in the link Aglooka posted? I've looked up Munsterlager. It's in Germany and has something to do with the 18th RA. There is a museum there which houses amongst other things a Tiger (don't know which one) and also a Panther. A Displaced Persons camp was also located there. That's all the information I could find quickly.
CCB = Combat Command B, a kind of Kampgruppe in the US Armored divisions. Kampfgruppe = an ad hoc collection of units gathered for a military operation. HTH
The Saumur (French Armor Museum in ... Saumur on the Loire River) Panther is running, I verified that during a model show last month.

I'm going to try and attach a photo of one of the Panther tanks we saw in the Ardennes last week - typical female-type picture!! I even have to make a tank look pretty!! Hope the size is OK.
