    Hi.
Does anyone here have relatives that fought in the second world war. My grandfather was a fighter pilot, who fought in the Battle of the Coral Sea, in the Pacific, and my friend has a grandfather who was an anti-aircraft gunner in Darwin, Australia during the Japanese air raids.
I just thought it would be interesting to see how many people on this forum had relatives in world war two.

    thanks, the Commando.

Here some incredible story (im not shure is it true)

My grandma was Partisan figter in Yugoslavia, she lived then in place near town Uzice. For those who dont know Yugoslav WW II history uzice was place who was temporaly taken ower from germans in free teritory, and there was famous TITO.

When germans start counterattack on uzice my grandma claim that she leaded TITO out of enemy forces ring. So i was a bit untrusty for that,so i asked gradpa....

His words: " I dont know that for shure coz i did not know ur granma then, but after WWII when she asked a figther pension, she was refused by the state. Then on shes insist we writed a letther to TITO,and a few weeks after that she get pension."

Btw she still get that pension :D

My grandfather joined up at the age of 17 in 1939. He was a gunner in what I assume was a Sherman Tank. He was all over the place: Italy, France, Holland, Belgium, Germany. He survived the war and went back to work in the mines.

My uncle, who was american, fought in the first infantry division. He fought in North Africa, Omaha beach(I think)on D-Day and Hurtgeon(spelled wrong) Forest.

yes the scotsirish on moms side go back to the boxer rebellion , the plains indian wars ,the union army and the continental army ..no doubt they carried brown bess or pike for the king prior to becoming americans ..on dads side they are recent immigrants from lyon france and sadly the french are spotty record keepers ..its a shame but most americans dont seem to know much about their ancestors past about 3 generations ...
