On my recent trip to the Eisenhower Presidential Library I came across a couple of photographs in one of the 37th ID files. The first is an arial view which has been annotated to show important geographical points, the positions of the regiments of the 37th, and the routes of the Japanese counter-attacks.

It is interesting to compare with the more familiar map of the Counter-Attack:

The other photo is a panoramic image of the same area, also annotated to show the main features including Hill 700 and the Piva Airstrips.

I was pretty excited to find this photo, as it gives a great perspective on the terrain.
