The Members Lounge requires a minimum of one post for a member to post on it, which effectively locks out all new members. While I understand this measure has been taken to prevent spam, surely spammers determined to get their junk out to the forum will simply post it in another forum, and deleting spam is equally easy for a mod on all forums. So I'm wondering if this new rule surrounding the Members Lounge is the best idea.

It seems to have worked in cutting down the amount of spam, so it seems the best compromise between preventing spammers and putting off new members. The one post minimum shouldn't be too much of a problem to potential new members anyway.

I guess that's a point. Even though I would most certainly be put off if I was a potential new member, others maybe not.

Anyone who signs up for the forum can realistically be expected to be interested in tanks. Thus, any new members should have something to contribute to the history sections.

Other forums have similar restrictions, so I don't see any problems in this method.

I would have thought (still do) that a minimum of 5 posts before being allowed to post here to be completely reasonable! I've seen other sites with that restriction.

This is a thread that was imported from a defunct forum. I doubt it has any restrictions on it.
