During the final months of the war would it be possible for an SS Soldat to wear an M40 Tunic with an M42 helmet? I'm in the process of completing my SS Schütze Uniform but need to know if it was possible as I already have an M40 tunic etc.
Hello, The answer on your question is very easy, all Helmets were randomly used, M40 tunic does not belong to a M40 helmet, some even used helmets conquered from the enemy. There is even a M45 (uber rare!). Of course certain units were given the same helmets, but when war went on new helmets were produced for example the M42 units that used the M40 now received some amount of M42's. There are no guidelines but yes it depends on what you want. If you want LSSAH it could be that 99% had M40 but M42 wouldn't make it non-authentic. They also had pre-war jackets they edited to make them look like newer models. Its war time you use whatever you can. Regards, Friedhelm
