Nazi Officers "Tortured to Death" At London Cage Identified

Getting the impression we're supposed to feel sorry for them.
"The names of two Nazi officers who may have been tortured to death by British interrogators can finally be revealed after a 70-year battle with the intelligence services who still refuse to identify them.
SS Lieutenant Helmut Tanzmann and Gestapo chief Hans Ziegler have now been identified after a painstaking analysis of formerly classified documents.
And it has also been discovered that Lieutenant Tanzmann was given the false name of Hans Eric Koch on his death certificate - a criminal offence under the Perjury Act. His coroner's file 'no longer survives' and his body was buried twice.
The two German officers were being subjected to harsh questions over war crimes at the secret London Cage interrogation facility, in one of the capital’s most exclusive roads, when they apparently took their own lives.
The intelligence services have steadfastly refused to release the names or files of the men they claim ‘committed suicide’ at the Cage, which has only stoked suspicions over how they met their end.
In 1960, War Secretary Christopher Soames claimed their names had been lost and ‘after this period of time would be extremely difficult to identify’ in a letter to Jeremy Thorpe MP."

Doesn't half make you wonder what lies hidden in the archives. Like you, I'm afraid I don't feel a drop of sympathy given what these men inflicted on others.

 

So did they commit suicide or were they "tortured to death" the heading seams to be assuming things that are yet to be proven.

 

It's effectively yet another advert for this book. Think it's the second or third time I've seen it mentioned recently.

 

Pills probably passed onto them...personally im pleased the PC brigade didn't exist back then...

 

It wasn't the right thing to do by any means, but I have no sympathy for those men. If they were regular German soldiers who did not commit any war crimes, that's when it would be truly unacceptable.

 

Helmut Tanzmann, was definitely a bad egg, involved in "Aktion Reinhardt" in the "Generalgouvernement"; the plan to eliminate most Jews in former Poland. From Lemburg (now Lvov), he later was transferred to Montpellier and Marseilles in France where he was also involved in sending Jews and others to the camps for destruction. There was a Sonderkommando Tanzmann, he set up which is not a sign of a great humanitarian.

He somehow got assigned to Norway at the end of '44/ start of '45 (Luck? I think not). He embarked a submarine in May '45 under the assumed identity KM Unterführer Hans Eric Koch. It is claimed that the submarine was heading for Germany. It was intercepted by the RN, and forced to disembark in Scotland, where all on board were incarcerated.

Both U-530 (a Type IXC/40 ), and U-977 (a Type VIIC ) left Norwegian harbours before escaping to Argentina.

During this time, large numbers of U-boats and their crews were detained in Scotland.

He was interrogated, and is said to have committed suicide by hanging, once his true identity had been revealed.

Hiding information is stupid, as it only breeds conspiracy theories.
