    Hiya,

I have discovered that during the Blitz from the night of October 8-9th 1940 the Luftwaffe switched from assigning bomber crews specific targets in London called 'Zielgebiet' (eg Battersea Power Station, West India Docks) to target areas of several square miles called 'Zielraum(e)' when it realised the inherent inaccuracy of their high altitude night-time bombings (Hyde et al, 1987 p.24). I am now looking to find maps of all these target areas used by the Luftwaffe, but I can't seem to locate them. Does anyone know of a possible source for these?

Maps get occasionally listed on eBay in the U.K.

Hmmm, I have been in correspondence with the Bundesarchiv where the Zielraum maps are apparently located in Freiburg since May. Even had a friend set up appointments to go out there twice to look at them, but both times when he arrived they screwed up and couldn't produce the maps. Does anyone know of a way to get these or has seen them somewhere? We are desperate and the Bundesarchiv is hopeless!

Sorry, I should have said that in the case of Freiburg a sign should be hung out to the effect that "non German speakers need not apply". The ways of BAMA are inscrutable to say the least. They used to reply to English language inquiries with a letter - in German of course - telling you that you needed to ask in German if you wanted to get a reply.

Yes luckily I have a German 'friend of a friend' who lives 1.5 hours away, but I've strained this relationship due to Bundesarchiv's repeated failures I am afraid.
