Hi all.My father died when I was 15 and do not have much info on his service. I

I would appreciate any guidance and help you can provide in understanding his service records. As I stated, my father served in 3 wars and received a purple heart in each of them. Date of induction was 9 Dec 42

I have limited info from his service records. Some of his files were destroyed in the St. Louis Archive fires. The pages I do have are very confusing. I could scan into a PDF but there are 40-50 pages

    I have the following
    • RA number
    • Service records - appears to be missing some time spans
    • Enlisted Record and report of Separation
      • Battles and Campaigns
        • Southern France GO 33 WD 45
        • Rome-Arno Rhineland GO 40 WD 45
        • Central Europe GO 48 WD 45
        • Korea - UN Defensive 19 Jul 50 to 15 Sept 50
        • Korea - UN Offensive 16 Sept 50 to 2 Nov 50
        • Korea - CCF Intervention 3 Nov 50 to 18 Sept 51
        • Korea - UN Counter Offensive 25 Jan 51 to 21 April 51
        • Korea - CCF Spring Offensive 22 April 51 to 18 Jul 51
        • Korea - Un Summer Fall Offensive 9 Jul 51 to 18 Jul 51
        • Vietnam Defense Campaign DA 778004 1966
        • Vietnam Counter Offensive DA 778004 1966
      • Wounds Received in action
        • EAME Theater 14 Sept 44 and 22 Oct 44
        • Korea 6 Sept 50
    • DD Form 214, Report of Separation
    • Enlistment of Induction Record which references prior service in 7th Reg, 3rd Infantry - 15 Dec 42 to 13 Nov 45. Also references Co B, 7th Inf
    • Korea - 8th Calvary

I welcome any guidance that can be provided.

    Thanks

    James

Hi James, Your dad was wounded twice in WWII, in Southern France, and once in Korea. The 3rd Infantry was Audie Murphy's Division. If he was with the 3rd during the time from 42, till 45, he would have been credited with more campaign so he must have joined them later. They invaded North Africa, Sicily, Anzio, then Rome-Arno. From Italy, the 3rd went to Southern France then Rhineland, then Ardennes and Central Europe so I'm guessing his second wound in Southern France took him out of action for the duration of WWII. If you could post his separation papers it would be helpful.

Bluten and Opana - Thanks for the quick reply.

Is there a file size restriction? I have tried to upload a 1 and 2 MB PDF file and I receive a error message that the files is too big.

    Thanks

Some people keep their information very private. So I ask.

See my sig for "Hyperwar". I wouldn't put in a location where it could be found by anyone who doesn't already have the address.
