They're going to have their work cut out, surely? "Polish authorities have appealed to the international crime fighting agency Interpol to help track down 1,600 former SS men still wanted for Nazi-era war crimes. Poland suffered more because of the Nazis during the Second World War than any other country. Most of the death camps used to murder Jews were built there - along with ghettos, work camps and Gestapo torture centres. Now the hunt is on to track down and bring to justice any surviving war criminals. 'We finally have to deal comprehensively with the mass murder that was committed in the German camps,' State Prosecutor Robert Janicki, of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) in Warsaw, told German broadcaster Deutsche Welle." 'We finally have to deal comprehensively with the mass murder that was committed in the German camps,' State ProsecutorRobert Janicki, of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) in Warsaw, told German broadcaster Deutsche Welle." NOW?! In 2018?! Why didn’t they “deal comprehensively” with it in the 40s, the 50s, the 60s, the 70s, the 80s, the 90s, or the 00s? Why wait until 2018 when most of them are dead?! I know they spent many decades as a Soviet puppet state but surely the Soviets would have loved to round up former SS men and bring them to justice.
Well this is Stupid........as you said BeeGee doing this immediately after the war, or even in the 50's would make perfect sense.........but nope, here we are, 73 years later. Way to go Poland, you sure did the 6 million plus Polish men, women, and children who died in combat or through atrocity, a favor. One explanation to this is that any involvement Poles had in the deaths of Jewish Poles or even non-Jewish Poles during the war is covered up now. The Poles might have been hit hard during the war, but they weren't totally innocent victims.
I guess the Wiesenthal center is still very active. I do think many nazis though escaped where they sent their money first. Waiting for the day Switzerland releases the nazi gold and art they have in the vaults to start with..
At the time, as sickening as this sounds now, they had more pressing problems than hunting down war criminals. The continent was in ruins and the search for a new era was beginning. Money and time were not going to be allocated to find Nazis. Rebuilding was the first priority.
I read that the Allied had no nazi criminal names as they entered Germany. No wonder the criminals escaped. Kph
Well as far as some were concerned Nazi = Criminal indeed the Nuremberg tribunal concluded that the SS was a criminal organization. So not having specific names was somewhat understandable. Seeing the reality of the camps was another serious wakeup call.
