    I don't know CAC, they might not actually be decreasing in numbers, but many aren't being flown anymore for expense reasons.

    Insurance is only part of it...Do you realize what it costs to operate such an aircraft, as well as paying for the trained "pit crew" that services the aircraft after each op.

    And parts have to be custom made these days, in large part.

    On the gripping hand, a guy I know building a fly-by-wire Trifokker, using the latest materials and technology. Says it is the only way to keep the dang thing from killing him on the first flight. I hope to see it fly some day.

    I think small unit actions are the most interesting, you get to meet all the players, and pick up on the important points of the fight. One veteran of Hurtgen Forest told me he didn't throw grenades, they'd just throw them back before the went off. :D A veteran of a later war said he prefered the AK because it was shorter than his M-16, and at the distances they were fight that mattered.

    Both hyperbole, of course, but when you can smell what they're having for supper you know the fight is going to be righteous the next day.

    Slight aside, what weapons development program would you like to see movified? The crazy things developed for D-Day? The Bomb? Jet powered aircraft.

    Speaking of The Bomb it would be useful to follow the decision-makers as they proceeded to the release point of the bombs. Some people would expect to see Truman chewing the carpet and screaming "I don't care if they want to surrender! I want to test that toy!" (I've heard that more than once, usually by a person who thinks the dispute between Marvel and DC is important.)

    I would love to see a movie made about the development of the Bomb. There were so many personalities and differences of opinion that I'm not sure any movie can be made that would do it justice. It would definitely be a monumental undertaking and would NOT include the Truman scene.

    Just watched The longest day again after reading this thread........it's a good long filmwith some great actors and one where you need to have a good stock of pringles to enjoy while you are watching it.
    Joking aside,the wife and i did a tour of Normandy on my bike a while ago and seeing the places where the fighting took place for real,really brings the film to life when you watch it.
    For those that are interested in the landings,a visit to Northern France is one to put on your bucket list as the whole area is really one big open museum......brilliant experience.
