Would anyone know how I can search by last name , first name or Identification number to find what boat they served in the navy. I'm writing a book and some state the boat in letters - others don't. As of now I'm making up what boat they were on but if there is an easy way to get it - I'd be all ears ?

Would be folks in Navy from 1943- 1951

Larger ships got names (USS Missouri), smaller ones went by their "hull number" LCT-35, for example). You can find a list of ships here: Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships Online

You can use Cressman to find some of the ships involved in an operation, but you can also look at ships in a class until you find one that was there, if any.

Here's another link you may already have: HyperWar: U.S. Navy in World War II

The web site Fold 3 has a lot of information on the Navy. Sometimes you can search a name and it will come up with a muster list that shows what craft or ship they served on.Some of us are members of Fold 3 and can do a search if we had a name.
