    Toppers-the details are on the form aren't they? ie

    "Cheques should be made payable to "The MOD Accounting Officer" when searches of the RN/RM or Army service records are requested.
    • For searches of RAF records, cheques should be made payable to "HMG Sub Account 3627". "

    Hi All, have just stumbled across this topic as I am having issues in searching for my great grandfathers WW2 records with minimal information. I have literally found out today that my great grandfather served in WW2, but all I have is his name & date of birth. I have no service number/rank/regiment and seem to have hit a brick wall with regards to online searches etc. I don't even know if he was Army, RAF or Navy which causes a problem in me selecting the correct form to send off.

    Who knew how much work would need to be done just to get hold of a service record.

    Hello quite new to this
    Just wondered has anyone been able to get their relatives army records without a death certificate.
    My sister in law hasn't seen her father since the age of 3 and her father would be 105 now and was a lieutenant in the army she knows his records are available for £30 but as she hasn't any idea where he may have passed away she is unable to get a death certificate
    She has his birth and marriage certificates and knows his army no, but without a death certificate she can't get the records.
    Her and her twin brother want his records now being his children but as he left them when they were children they don't know if he has other family or not and having a name like Davies and from Cardiff doesn't help.
    Sorry if posted on wrong place but had a lot of problems trying to join forum and post so please feel free to move.

    I don't know is this answers your question, but check this

    3. Apply for the records of someone who's deceased

    You can apply for a copy of someone else’s service records if any of the following apply:

    you’re their immediate next of kin, for example their spouse or parent

    you’ve got consent from their immediate next of kin

    you have a general research interest - you’ll only have access to limited information, unless they died more than 25 years ago

    You need to know the person’s full name, date of birth and service number.

    Fill in 2 forms - a request form and a search form.

    Fill in a request form

    Download and fill in a request form for either:

    next of kin’s records (PDF, 53KB) - use this form if you’re next of kin or have next of kin’s consent

    Hi Gavin,
    just wondering if you got anywhere with your search, as I am in the exact same situation. All we know is that my grandfather was possibly in either the Medical or Veterinary Corps. But even that is not certain, as he could have served elsewhere.
    I have his name, DOB, death certificate, but don't even know if this would be enough to send off. Went to go collect his medals off my aunt, and she had given them away!! Fuming is not the word, as at the very least they could have given us a clue, but now we have nothing :-/

    Yes, you have enough info to apply for his records. Name & DOB is enough.

    Hi I have received my Grandads service record from the RAF during WW2 - I can see he was in Egypt - how do I find out his Squadron ? I have his service number but no information about battles or day to day life hope someone can help many thanks Caroline
