    Mark,

Having spoken to my father today I need to correct a couple of things as well as adding a little more information (my short term memory is not as good as my fathers long term memory). My Dad actually landed in a field outside the village Saux Le Chartre. He cannot remember the name of the first family he stayed with but he was given an official I.D. by the local mayor and was called Jean Lefevre. He was helped by the FFI (Force Francais D'Interiur) and was moved around quite a lot. He did spend a lot of time with a family who were Lucien and Janette Cislowski in Montlerey who he visited after the war. He eventually hitch hiked back through Bayeux via Chatres-Mayenne and back to England on the 29th/30th of August 1944. Because he was a second dickie on that trip he didn't actually know any of the crew so he does not recall your father only Ron Fox as previously mentioned. Apologies once more for the original inaccuracies, look forward to reading your reply in due course.

    Regards Richard

    Hi,
My dad knew your dad. My dad was Lou Greenburgh. My brother has done a lot of research. Maybe we can help. My email is heathervanginkel@hotmail.com

I'm afraid I have no evidence for further details . It is said to have "presumely" crashed near the target area and most bodies are buried in Calais (4 men) and Boulogne (1 man) , but I don't know whether it crashed into the sea or on land. It was shot down by Flak however .

    Bonjour Mark

I am sorry to all that have posted to me and I have not answered.
The notifications must have ended up in my spam folder.

No problem Mark, we are still around. The best way to see whether there is any new input is to check in on the forum from time to time.

    Hi Mark,

I've just seen this post, as I am just writing up the loss of LL727. If I can help you out at all I've got all the ORB records and a complete ops spreadsheet for 514 Sqn. WE also have a thriving Facebook community 514SquadronRAF with plenty of other people linked to the unit.

Lou Greenburgh was a true character and a hero of 514 Sqn. His exploits made him a legend amongst legends. If you are able to exchange information that you have found out it would be useful as I am writing a follow up to the squadron operational history (Striking Through Clouds). The next book (Nothing Can Stop Us) features every crew and their ops, with as many relevant details and photos as possible. If you are able to share anything that would be great.

    Best regards

    Simon Hepworth

I have attached a couple of photos from the 514 Squadron site; these are the crew of F/O Les Sutton DFC after his return to Waterbeach. The squadron operational record shows that he completed 39 operations, the final one being to Kiel on 13th April 1945. The aircraft is NN773, JI-K, which also survived the war. Her 21st op was to Datteln on 9th March 1945, flown by the Sutton crew. (Source 514 Squadron Society Archive)

With NN773 JI-K Sutton had 2 crews. One before 1 February 1945 and another one after until April.
First picture is 2nd crew. Is it cockpit picture of 2nd crew too?

Dad went through this unit in '42 and '43 as a USAAF Aviation Cadet, but he called it British Flight Training School.
