PVT Gilbert J. Nishimi, ASN 30105584, Battery C, 522nd Field Artillery Battalion.

Awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received 19 October 1944 in France, per General Orders 290, HQ, 45th Infantry Division, dated 6 December 1944 (Image 0731, 11 April 2009).

Apparently the 522nd supported the 45th on 19 October 1944.

"The artillery unit of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the 522nd Field Artillery Battalion, provided support fire from 105mm howitzers for the 442nd RCT and 100th Infantry Battalion. Regarded as one of the fastest artillery units in Europe, about 650 men served in the 522nd. In March 1945, the 522nd was separated from the 442nd. The 522nd is perhaps best known for liberating some of the sub-camps of the Dachau Nazi death camp in the last months of the war in Europe."

@kerrd5 I really appreciate you dropping these pieces of info into the forums so that they can be hoovered up by the google.

Do you mind if I start taking some of these pieces and dropping them into structured profiles on WW2|ORG? There are so many good tidbits that would expand the public record in a useful way.
