I'm thinking he is the "guy", he used "may", because the deal is still in the works. Just my WAG.

Oldest tank running that I've seen is a Renault M1917 at Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in NY. They run it around for their WW1 show on Sundays.

Course, I saw her when she was in her 60s, back in the early 1980s. But, she is still their putting on a show.

Martin, interesting sound comparison as well as the power to weight rations, The 917 had roughly a 1000hp, depending on the version and carried about a ton of weight, the MK 5 had about 600 hp but had to drag 50 tons around!! Would hate to have to decide which I would rather hear, perhaps throw in Bach for a comparison.

Not seen an FT on the go.
The Weald Foundation recently running restored two variants, though. So hopefully will bump into them one day.

    I forgot about Militracks.
Competitor for most running WW2 German gear? Or does Tankfest beat it on actual tanks?

At the risk of being censored for veering wildly off-topic, you're quite right, gaines - but the 1000bhp version ( the /10 and /30 variants used so effectively in Can-Am by Mark Donohue ) had twin turbos which muted the engine sound ( producing a 'thrumming/whistling' note ). The Group 5 917K ( as seen in the hands of McQueen in Le Mans or Siffert and Rodriguez in real life ) had a terrific 'blaring' noise which was quite spine-tingling.....

    Quick ! Back on-topic before von P has a seizure......:p

Took me a while to work out what you were talking about.
Amazing how many Porsche descendents are called Ferdinand...

The panther in that YouTube clip sounds rough as hell to me.
Might just be the road surface, but the Jagdpanther makes a very distinctive smooth thrumming sound. Like the T34's track rattle, you can tell what's coming before you see it.

I'd probably rather listen to a 917 than most things.

I lean more to Saumur's Kingtiger myself.

Fallen asleep to this a few times when I ran it for background noise.

And here it is - this is the closest to how they sounded in anger :

From Beetle, to 917, with a few stops in-between.

I have been following the fest on FB. Nice attendees, armor wise. Anybody else go? I was hoping to see John's Stug there.
