Did it really work even under Stalin? Or was it a failing system already? In any case a system that has a critical dependency on one or even a few people is not a viable long term system.

Stalinism without Stalin is no longer Stalinism.

    Stalinism was oligarchical collectivism.

Patton turning East would not only have been a pre Vietnam Vietnam but much, much worse. There was no justification for turning on Russia and no other country would have followed the US forces into that meat grinder and rightly so. Because of the US attacking Russian forces, Uncle Joe Stalin would have all the justification that he needed to continue the war and continue grabbing more territory. Patton had a bad idea.

The Americans wouldn't support war with the USSR, it was simply impossible.

There is a story (maybe even true) that Stalin consulted with his top general possibility of an attack on Western Europe in 1945, and they all refused. But even if he was most likely teasing them.

Sigh...no those examples are not from "scholars". It is Ayn Rand and regurgitated Ayn Rand from her acolyte Leonard Peikoff.

    1. The proletariat was still being oppressed by a pseudo-bourgeoisie.
    2. That pseudo-bourgeoisie controlled the means of production, not the people.
Those two facts alone make it very suspect that this is in any way communist.

That was Stalinism/Sovietism. Totalitarianism with a state Capitalism economy but Stalin and his people owned and controlled the means, not the people.
