George Worf - Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, but what Infantry Division?

    I'm trying to find information on George Worf, who served in the US Army in WW 2 and was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. The only information I have is that Orders No. 59 (dated 1944), of a [blurred] Infantry Division listed him by name as awarded the Silver Star. I also have his service number.

    I am requesting the archived records, but would love to know the unit of service and the Silver Star citation.

    I recognize that the orders publication date allows ruling out infantry divisions that entered combat in 1945, airborne divisions, 10th Mountain, 1st Cav and armored divisions. As far as the rest, unfortunately some divisions have minimal digitized orders and rosters online, while others are superb.

    Any help is most appreciated.

    It might help if you uploaded a photo of the document you are using. Context can be important.

    Did a quick look around. As you know he was awarded these medals.He is on the list for Silver Star recipients. It shows his middle initial as "H". Hope this helps.

    I have discovered that he retired in 1963 as a LTC. So far, no luck on his unit in WW2. I concur with Rich; it would help if you could post an image of the document you are using.

    The request is in to St. Louis, but the curiosity was great for my father and me.

    That is a great find, Steve. I checked the 179th Infantry History and did not find him named, but it does not have a complete roster. Assuming he received the SS while with the 179th Infantry, maybe Dave (kerrd5) will have some info.
