    Hello,

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction, I am in search of a book which chronicles the 644th. Tank Destroyer Battalion. All of my internet searches have been fruitless, any and all help would be appreciated. The book information is as follows:

644th History "Fortune Favors the Brave" - Printed by Muster-Schmidt, Ltd., Gottingen, Germany on July 11, 1945. Book has 92 pages and is 10-1/2" x 8" in size.

Thanks for any and all help,

    Dave

I suspect that book will be hard to find, Dave.

Thanks JW, I was afraid of that.......who knows, maybe someone reading this will remember seeing one or know someone who has one they'd like to get rid of.

    Thanks for the post!

I have copied books at the AHEC. It depends on its condition, whether the binding is robust enough
    to copy.

WOW is all I can say, you guys really came through for me!

Natman, thanks for the link, I am going to look into it and will let the group know how I make out.

Dave, that's great to know about your success in copying books, hopefully I can get a copy, but an original would be way better :). Also, thanks for the link regarding the after action reports!

TDTommy, yes I have visited the site you referred to, as a matter of fact, my Great Uncle's information was posted today! His name was Alfred Rizzuto if you care to take a look.

Again, thanks so much for the information, hopefully there is more to come!!

I can't seem to log into this site as it is asking for username and password. Any advice?

    Dave,
Try this one: The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC). I've had trouble trying to save direct links to info I'm looking for at several military sites, usually have to start from the beginning each time. You shouldn't have to log in for anything now. Click the "Research" tab, then "Search All Collections", enter "644th Tank Destroyer Battalion" in the search box, mark the box next to "AHCO Research Catalog" and click "Go". It will show 1 result, then you'll have to click "View". It will bring up info on the book, you'll need the catalog number to request a copy.

I read your Uncle's bio earlier today.

There is a Research & Inquirys page you may want to read through. You should be able to request a photocopy of the book online by using this inquiry form. I put in a request earlier today for the 776th TD Bn. unit history. I got a near instantaneous auto-reply as well as an email copy of my inquiry. Now, the wait for a human response... ;)

That definitely sounds promising, Dave. Maybe he'll find one or two other surprises while he's looking. You never know! ;)
