Hi there my name is David. My father was in the 40th ID, in the Pacific WW2. I hope to meet another or more with similar experience. I'm an avid WW2 historian, hunter, outdoorsman, husband, cook, woodworker, etc. I'm so glad I stumbled on this site, I can learn much. Be well all.

Hi David, my father served in the 40th Infantry out of California. He was in the artillery. He was at Luzon along with a few other campaigns, per his battle/campaign stars. That's all I know?

I wish this site existed 20 years ago, I'd at least be able to maybe find a few guys or their son's who's fathers served with mine. My father John passed in 2003.

    Thank you, David

Hi , I’m new here also , and Welcome.

Luzon was one campaign my Father participated in . He also had listed on discharge papers:-Battles and Campaigns: Central Pacific - Guadalcanal-Southern Philippines-Luzon . Also he went into the
US Army Hawaiian Department . So I researched Units-Battalions-Divisions from the
Hawaiian Department - Oahu , Hawaii. Then narrowed my research down to Field Artillery Divisions , because that was his Service area . Came up with the 25th FA Div. . Read Soldier and Veterans stories- then learned terms or words that returned good search results.
Finally after about 3 months off and on I could read his story. No wonder he never would discuss it with me. But that’s as I was little and growing up - - I’d ask once in awhile-Dad what did you do in the war ? I didn’t even know about the injuries he had suffered from a grenade at Guadalcanal. He had scars on the back of his head and on his neck from shrapnel . Think I was about 16 when I noticed them on his back one day - he started to tell me- - Oh that - that’s just a little scar -/-/- …and then my Mother over hearing my question Pops in and says- - Those scars those are from one of those Gosh darn ! Stinking little slanted- eyed - Japanese Murderers !! Ha ha haaa .Every time i would ask him about his time in the war , if she was near she would rattle off very bad name calling cussing - - she would get truly upset . But it made me laugh most times that happened . I even did it just for the laugh a time or two . Anyway- - I’m sure he probably thought it best to just keep things that I didn’t know- - Unknown . Now I’ve talked too much and I gotta stop . Welcome see you Laterrr
