....politics/etc are not ''simple''/black and white/clear cut/etc--why do you think there is so much controversy/conflicts/problems in the world??? ..to answer your question: yes---and no--and yes and no.....we fought against the Vietnamese--who only wanted freedom/to unite their country--and what was best for their country.....but we thought we were ''helping the world'' and the US by fighting communism ...the US did not want ''free'' elections'' in Vietnam....they sided with the South--who had 3 heads of state changes in less than 2 years--one with murder ..we burned Vietnamese villages/etc ---but, we thought we were doing what was right.......
Technically Imperial Russia attacked Germany first in the Great war. Also it should not be forgotten a number of 'royal' powers intervened during the French revolution. Established powers never look kindly to revolutions the threaten to overturn the apple cart.
...we thought we were keeping the Vietnamese ''free'' --from communism/etc....yet they were fighting against us for freedom = you see the quandary? ..truly an unwinnable war--for many reasons--for one, the ''mighty'' French lost with much financial help from the US...then the US lost.....!
It was Hitler's mission to destroy Communism, hence appeasement and then the recruitment of SS personnel and Nazi Scientists to work for the CIA and the Army research branches. The US took over where Hitler left off, especially with McCarthyism and the House Un-American Activities committee.
